I needed a long-distance cruiser to take me to AVAM, the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore. I found this one in Sarasota, Florida, and it was the first in a line of customized new cars. One reason I chose the Marquis was because it’s the same scale as the cars of my childhood. We never touched the inside, but every inch of the exterior was reshaped. This car won the 2009 NY Times Collectible Car of the Year Award. The day the Times printed the story about it, I got a call from Steve Luth, a wonderful and generous auto collector in California. He bought it that day and had us send it out. Luth and I took it to the Grand National Roadster show and The Sacramento Autorama, where it won Best In Class in both shows.
